Reducing isolation in Selly Oak: moving forward in the ‘new normal’

Last year we received funding support from the Selly Oak Neighbourhood Network Scheme to deliver our IT@Home service to those who have difficulty leaving the home helping to improve their digital skills; increasing independence and reducing isolation.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic and the need to socially distance put on hold our face to face service delivered in people’s homes.

Working closely with the NNS team and community groups in Selly Oak, we have now refocused the project to provide Tablet computers and personalised training to improve social inclusion for a group of older people who have been particularly isolated by the pandemic restrictions.  The training will be delivered remotely by phone and video and will enable the participants to join in their old social activities such as going to Church (by Skype), receive newsletters (by email), meet friends from their lunch group (on Facebook).
